Here come the waterworks

‘From bartering come tears’ is a rather literally translated Dutch saying. As a kid you always want what other kids have. You go so far that you trade your newest toy just to get the one the other kid is playing with. In the end though, you will miss your toy, once again envying your playmate, and the nice afternoon will end in tears.

I haven’t traded anything since I was a kid. I guess the traumatic experiences of losing my favourite marbles are still too fresh on my mind. I am glad I can earn my own money and buy whatever I like. If I had to depend on bartering I would probably end up in the gutter. My CV shows a random mix of jobs, but the true skills that would make you a living in a bartering society are missing. Tears would definitely be flowing then.

Today’s daily prompt: If the world worked on a barter system, how would you fare? Would you have services to barter? Would you be successful, or would you struggle?
