I rub my mouse pad and the daily ghost comes out. What? This is not nearly what a ghost should look like.
“You’re wish is my command.”
“Make a wish!”
“Huh…” My quizzical look isn’t enough for this guy?
He sighs, obviously annoyed he has to explain this riddle again. “I am the daily ghost, ghost of the digital age. I can grant you three wishes. What is your first wish?”
“What!” I exclaim again, to which the ghost gets agitated: “Stop with the what already!”
No time to think. What do I want?
“I want a voucher for a trip to New Zealand of which I can personally create the itinerary.”
Pling. I get an email saying I’ve won some competition. They’d like me to confirm my trip date. Wow!
“I want a job in a ski resort in New Zealand for the coming winter.”
The familiar pling again. Congratulations to me, I made it through the selection process. I don’t even remember entering that. If I can be there on the 15th of June. Sure!
One more wish. What will it be?
“I wish I had a brand new Canon 700D, but that’s too much to ask isn’t it?” I don’t think this one can come via email.
Pling. I must have been wrong. It’s an order confirmation. What a day!
This one’s inspired by the daily prompt: Lucky star.
From out of nowhere a hand appears. Before I know it a cloth is pressed onto my mouth and I am struggling to… I am out. I have no clue what time it is when I wake up, confused. Am I on a plane? A head turns around and a distorted voice asks me: “Island, unknown forest or strange building?”
Is this a joke? Is my life going to depend on a random set of words and the choices I make? “Uhh…” I stammer. My mind goes into super speed mode. Island, is that where I am going? What alone? Will it be deserted? Brittain is an Island. We are on a plane. I can’t pick unknown forest. I’ve been to the jungle. Dark and freaky. And what is a strange building? Does it look funny? Is it haunted? Will it be locked? Is it tiny or rather big? What kind of choice is this? Why am I making this choice?
“Come on, what is it?” the big muscular brute shouts at me, “Island, unknown forest or strange building?” I don’t know what to say. I am in total shock and panicked I yell: “Island, Island, Island!” Is this the right answer? The brute says nothing. A little later we descend. I am kicked out of the plane and it takes off again. I look around me. I am on a beach. A little further I see an unknown forest. There is a strange-looking building on the side.

In a galaxy far away a highly sophisticated people are venturing into space further than anyone in this universe has ever ventured. Us gods always thought it would be the Martians from Mars, the Erians from Eria, or perhaps even the human folk from Earth if they’d put their minds to it. Well, that has yet to happen. But we were very surprised to hear the Oxodites from Ox had finally managed to create a spacecraft worthy of exploring beyond galaxies and stars.
With a slick design the Floaty 100 is capable of reaching speeds far beyond any of the other peoples’. What the Oxodites call ‘fast power’ has brought them across galaxy borders in a search to expand their planetary wisdom of life. Recently the Floaty 100 has landed on planet Earth and the Oxodites seemed fascinated with the daily occupations of its people.
The hunger for knowledge of the Oxodites causes them to look for other planets so the race is on to find Earth 2. So far no changes has been made to any planets and the people of Earth are unaware that they’re being observed and researched. After the destruction of Zerion by way of introduced specimens of flora and fauna the Oxodites have become careful and intend to study by observation in the foreseeable future.

I woke up and found a note next to my bed. It said ‘don’t bother, you’re invisible. They won’t see you’. What kind of joke was this? So got up, into the shower, brushed my teeth and eventually made my way out. At work nobody said anything to me. Next I hear people talking about me.
I shoot off to the bathroom but I am there. My reflection is in the mirror. I’m there. I decide to talk to my secretary. She looks bored and dreamy. When she hears her name her head pops up. She’s looking around her. No matter what I do she doesn’t see me. Then I see her running off, not knowing whether she heard her name or not.
I go into the office and suddenly I am greeted by a colleague. I feel like I’m losing my mind. This man can see me? In a shop I am standing in line at the cash register, but people keep cutting in line. I get mad but nobody hears me. Then I dash off, newspaper still in my hand, but nobody cares. They don’t see me?
Frustrated I crash in bed that night. In my dreams I am giving a speech. People stare at me in awe. They listen to my every word and nothing can distract them. The next day I wake up and look in my planner; 3PM presentation. I am confused and think of my dream. Wait. Which one was my dream?
O how I’ve often dreamed of this, discussed it with many people. And now I’ve finally hypothetically won so much; 1 billion dollars! I don’t even grasp how much that actually is, but I’ll attempt to make a to do list for all this money anyway.
1. Put most of it in the bank so I can generate a yearly income from my interest.
2. Fly to Perth, buy a super nice campervan and hit the road. First, I’ll do a big road trip through the south of WA. After that, it’s off to Melbourne, via the Coorong NP, the Grampians NP and the great ocean road. Then we continue upwards along the south coast towards Sydney. I’ll visit a friend on the way in Berri NSW. After Sydney comes the epic trip up the east coast, all the way up. I”ll take my time until April, when my visa expires here.
3. It’ll be the perfect time to do a ski season in New Zealand. I hope I can make by boyfriend enthusiastic about skiing or boarding. After that I’ll take my time cruising the country in a campervan.
4. So some island hopping while I’m in this part of the world. Tassie in Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Tuvalu. You name it. I’ll enjoy some luxury and try to reach the lesser known places.
5. Show my boyfriend my own country, The Netherlands.
6. Go to Canada for a ski season and another big road trip.
7. Buy all the dresses I want for the rest of my life.
8. Keep travelling the world and seeing new places.
9. Build a beautiful home, designed as we would like it.
10. Volunteer instead of work.
11. Go scuba diving more often.
12. Get a second home in a nice spot of the world.
13. Have no problems to invite family to a wedding anywhere in the world.
14. Go somewhere with my parents and brother.
15. Do a master degree abroad.
16. Ski in South America.
17. Use my free time to do lots of courses; photography, acting, beading, sports, dancing.
18. Being able to help friends out financially for the rest of my life.
19. Never work a shitty job again.
20. Hand out money on the streets and see how people react.
21. Road trip North America in an old Mustang.
22. Go on a cruise.
23. Go hunting for the northern lights again.
24. Visit friends all over the world.
25. Write a book about my adventure.
Ok, I could go on. I would know what to do in the immediate future, which is what I’d like to do anyway, but would get a lot easier. After that, there are so many dreams, but you can’t really plan your life. Things’ll change and that is good. Who knows, I might actually win the lottery one day, but right now I can’t afford to buy a ticket. I’m saving up to travel!

So the daily prompt asks: “You are the first astronaut to arrive on a new, uncharted planet. Write the note that you leave to those who come after you.”
Now what would I like to find if I were the next man to arrive on this planet? Here’s my note to the next guy.
I know you must be tired. I know I was. But look around you. The journey through space was worth it. You are now at a place only a few of us will see. Soak it up, take it in. Feel its magic. And if you’re getting a bit homesick, look into the box I left here. Good luck.

You have been named supreme ruler of the universe. Your first order of business is creating and instituting a holiday or festival in your honor. What day of the year is your holiday? What special events will take place? Describe YOU DAY in as great a detail as you can muster: the special foods we’ll consume, the decorations we’ll use…everything.
Summer already has too many festivals and festivities, so my day is in February. It is a day in which we invite warmth into our houses by inviting people into our homes. Children decorate the windows with paint to celebrate the beauty of winter. There is hot chocolate all around. In the morning we bake cookies, which we can all enjoy together.
In the afternoon people go out to other people’s houses. It is like a pub crawl, but into the homes of the people. There are bands playing, crafts workshops, little shops and garage sales. It is a day in which you can meet your neighbours, not just the ones next door. Everyone contributes, whether it’s by opening your house or organising the events.
The day ends when evening falls, with a sugar and cinnamon pancake. Or two. We are all back in our own houses and can look back on a wonderful day.

Cool. That’s what my dad said. Cool! Are you jibbers? I poofed him: “Are you ancient or something? Who still says that?” But my dad’s a bit of a greycel. Can’t keep up with things, that’s it. His house hasn’t even had an upgrade yet. His house is not linked to ICH. It’s only the gadget of the century! I actually have to reach for my mobile to get hold of him. I keep telling him to get it. I would only be a blab away from him. But he says it’s a new way for the government to spy on us. Mind-blowing the way this man thinks. Anyway, I’ve gotta fly, my EBF is criffing me.
